- Turn over two cards at a time.

Tips & Strategy
- Resist the urge to click quickly. Pause after each reveal and consciously rehearse the symbol and its position before moving on.
- Prioritize building a mental map of one corner or row before expanding. Trying to remember the whole board at once is harder than anchoring to a known cluster.
- When you flip a card and do not immediately see its match, hold off on a second flip if possible. Wait for a turn where you have more context — random second flips yield little new information.
- Look for symmetry in your reveals. If you see two identical symbols on the same side of the board, check whether they are neighbors — matching nearby pairs clears space for easier navigation.
- The clock doesn't start until you flip the second card of your very first pair attempt — so take as long as you like studying that opening card before committing to your second flip; it won't cost you any time on the counter.
- Only 8 of the 20 possible symbols appear on any given day, and each day's draw is independent — don't assume a symbol from a previous day is 'due' to repeat or 'used up'; the next 8 are picked from scratch every time.

- Yes. A daily seed selects 8 symbols from a larger pool and shuffles their positions, so every player gets the same layout on the same day — but it changes at midnight UTC.
- How many cards are on the board?
- There are 16 cards — 8 pairs of matching symbols arranged in a 4×4 grid.
- What is the goal of the game?
- Flip all 8 pairs by turning over two cards at a time. If they match, they stay revealed. If not, they flip back. Complete the board using as few moves as possible.
- Is there a time limit?
- No. The timer tracks how long you take, but there is no penalty for finishing slowly. Take your time and focus on memory.
- Does my result save if I close the browser?
- Your completed daily result — including your move count and time — is saved locally in your browser, so it will still show even if you close and reopen the tab.
- Can I replay the same daily board?
- No — Play Again reshuffles into a brand new layout, seeded fresh rather than from the day's seed, so it won't match the original board or any other replay. It's there for extra practice, not for retrying the same puzzle. Today's actual result stays exactly as saved no matter how many times you replay, and your streak and win totals aren't affected either way, since only one win per calendar day counts there; tomorrow's board, with a new daily seed, arrives at midnight UTC.
- What counts as one move?
- A move is counted once per pair attempt, not per flip — turning over the first card of a pair doesn't add to your count. I only increment it when you flip the second card, whether it matches or not, so 8 is the fewest moves a perfect game can take.
- How long do cards stay visible before flipping back?
- A matched pair locks face-up after a brief 200ms pause so you can register the match. A mismatched pair stays visible for 700ms before flipping back down — enough time to study both symbols and lock in their positions for later.
- How is the daily board generated?
- I turn the date and this game's slug into a single daily seed, then use it twice: once to pick 8 symbols out of a pool of 20, and once to shuffle their 16 positions on the board. Both steps run the same way on every device, which is why everyone sees the same layout on the same day.
- Does my finishing time include the little pause when the last two cards lock in?
- The clock itself is a whole-second counter, not a millisecond stopwatch — it ticks once per second and only stops once every card's status flips to "discovered," which for the last pair lands roughly 200ms after you flip its second card. So that trailing pause is real and the clock is still running through it, but because the counter only moves in full-second steps, it usually doesn't change the number you actually see — it just gets absorbed into whichever second was already ticking, and only occasionally pushes your displayed time over to the next second.
- When I hit Play Again, do I get today's 8 symbols reshuffled, or a completely different set?
- Possibly a completely different set. Replay draws its own fresh seed, unrelated to today's date, and reruns the full selection from scratch — picking 8 symbols out of the 20-symbol pool again, not just reshuffling the 8 that were on today's official board. So a replay round can include symbols that never appeared on today's board at all.
- How big is the full symbol pool, and do all 20 show up eventually?
- The pool is a fixed set of 20 icons (dog, cat, frog, butterfly, fox, lion, turtle, unicorn, octopus, shark, bee, blossom, clover, fire, star, gem, target, moon, guitar, dolphin), and only 8 are drawn for any single day — so 12 sit out on a given day. Each day's draw is independent, so there's no guarantee about which 12 get left out or how soon a symbol repeats.
